This is my 1968 EP-2 tube Echoplex, which I got in trade for some other gear. My first Echoplex was an EP-3, and there are considerable differences between the two, the biggest being that the EP-2 is a tube model, the EP-3 is solid state. The EP-2 is a very cool piece of vintage gear. This is the model Joe Walsh used in his James Gang days, and it is said that Hendrix used an EP-2 on the songs "All Along The Watchtower" and "Red House".

I wish I could tell you what it sounds like, but this Plex is in pretty sorry shape and needs repair and restoration. I cleaned it and put a new tape in it when I first got it, and although I got a strong dry signal through it the echo is extremely weak. It also hums really bad, probably due to worn filter caps. The filter cap can has about a bazillion connections on it, and I'd rather have a pro to the work so I'll have my friend Jeff Andrews do the recap, the cost will be worth it. I'll install new tubes and belt, then turn it over to Jeff for the recap and whatever else he finds wrong with it. I'll then have the pinch roller rebuilt by Terry at Terrys Rubber Rollers and wheels, and clean up the cab. Someone in the past had the cartridge cover anodized black, heaven knows why, I'll have to see if that can be removed too. All of this will probably cost a couple of hundred bucks or more, but it will be worth it.

Stay tuned for updates. I've taken some internal and external pictures and posted them below, have a look.
